For years I (The Tin Man) have wanted to build a drag car. I have been involved with performance cars since I was 14 years old and had a couple of oportunities to go down the drag strip but never with a car that was ment to be there. A couple of years back I traded a bit of work and a bit of storage for a '40 Ford Sedan. It was just a body shell and a frame and a few parts. Originally I thought I would make it a roller and bring it to the swap meet, then last year I attended the Minnesota Street Rod Association sponsored "Super Secret Fun Run" nostalgia drag race at Brainerd International Raceway. The rest is history. A friend (Ron Dvoracek) and I decided to team up on building the '40 into a 1/4 mile screemer. Here is our progress to date.
We both agreed right away that it had to be chopped, but it couldn't be just an ordinary chop.

We didn't want to loose the look of the stock roof line so the solution was to shorten the body between the B pillar and rear fender untill the back half met up nicely with the roof.
Here you can see how nice the roof line matches up with the back of the body. The quarter window is also shortend the same amount as the rest of the body.
The body ended up being 9 inches shorter so the frame was shortened the same amount then we boxed it the full length. Here Ron learns how to weld. And I plan to drive this thing?
