This is a 1961 DKW Junior which was part of the German Auto Union. A couple of other cars built by the Auto Union are: Volkswagon and Audi.
The owner bought this car near new in 1961 and had it in storage since the mid 60's. This is a picture near completion.
This is the car as it came to our shop. It does not look so bad from this picture. Does this look like the car Mr Incredible drives or what?
It's so ugly its cute.
As its disasembled you can see, its not in as good a shape as it looked from first glance.
The body is all braced and ready to go to the blaster.
We built a custom chassis featuring a MII front suspension narrowed 4 inches, a custom built steering rack by Maval and Aldin coil over shocks in the front. In the rear we narrowed a 8.8 Ford rear axle 24" and had a custom built set of leaf springs made. We did not use coilovers in the rear because it would be near impossible to get exaust out to the back. This car is small! It has a 50 inch track width and an 81 inch wheel base.
With some of the repairs done on the body and the body mounted we rough assembled it to se how it was going to look. It looks kind of like a 56 Ford.
More body repairs done and the front clip mounted. Its starting to come together.
With its California Smoothie wheels and new tires it looks pretty cool.
We custom fabricated all new floor pans, fire wall, and even a custom dash.
Custom built trunk floors are done. A custom Tin Man fuel tank drops in from the top.
The engine is a 2.8 Litre Ford. It may seem like an odd choice but we needed to use as narrow and as short an engine as possible due to the narrow chassis and even with the V-6 we had to cut the firewall back 6 inches. The 60 degree V-6 seemed like a shoe in. You can also see the custom firewall and side panel built by Tin Man. Also notice the AC pump.
Its in primer and all seam sealed. Wow! Thats nice work. Who did that any way. Its always nice to see things turn out.

Its all in color. Now its time to put it together.
That little 2.8 looks like it belongs there.
There's a lot going on behind the dash.
Talk about a whole new look. It hasn't gone down the road yet but it one its class at the GSTA car show in St Paul. Just a couple of minor things left and we can send it home.
Owner, Wally, came to pick the car up and do the "test" for little adjustments, etc.
